My main camera progression
Sometimes I got question why and how did I end up with mirrorless camera. Also as an event photographer many were wondering the significant change in size of the cameras and the lenses. So here I briefly opening what main cameras I had.
The reason why I’m talking about main cameras is I also have and had other models as a second cameras. As a backup or extreme situations, like an adventures in Alps. I also left out listing my lens arsenal, as it’s not relevant to this post.
Smena 35
I got my first camera at 12 years old. I used it a lot. Even it was a pocket sized film camera, it has manual aperture and shutter settings. So I had to learn these in the first place.
Canon PowerShot S50
My first own digital camera. I chose this model as it was the only pocket sized camera with full manual controls at this time.
Canon EOS 30D
Canon S50’s limited optics drove me to get SLR camera with a lens arsenal.
Canon EOS 7D
When the quality of 30D became unbearably obsolete, it was a time to upgrade to 7D.
Canon EOS 1Ds MkII
I was curious about full frame body. So I’ve got 1Ds. But realised, that full frame didn’t gave me any more advantage over the 7D. As my primary interest was in capturing the moments. Rarely I did some commercial shootings.
Olympus Pen E3
I love travelling and at some point I just got totally fed up with carrying huge bag with heavy camera and big lenses. Decided to switch everything to mirrorless. Olympus Pen series was pretty credible choice. Without losing the required quality to 7D. Everything just fit into little shoulder bag. This was life changing experience.
Olympus Pen E-P5
E-P5 model has plenty of new features I was desired to get. So it was a time to upgrade.
Olympus Pen-F
Finally I got this camera after dreaming about it for a year. This was also a point I stopped looking for new cameras. This model put me in a situation, where I just couldn’t find any deficiency. I has everything I ever needed.
Feels like it’s my final camera for the rest of my life 😀
Update 2020
After 4 years I’m still thinking PEN-F is the best camera ever.
