Hello!

mbar.at is platform independent service. It can detect your location with geolocation service supported by almost all browsers. Mobile and desktop. If geolocation is not supported, you can still manually set location by using place finder and moving a map to desired location. Below the map you see two links Full and Simple. Full page contains detailed data with a map image. Simple page contain data in plain text, which is useful especially on really bad gprs connection. You can save these links as a bookmarks in to your device for future use.

This service is created in cooperation with a Finnish company Foreca Ltd, which provides air pressure and weather data from the observation stations in various locations around the world. Service returns informations from recent observation station within 100 km of the given coordinates. You can see which station is requested and its distance from you.

mbar.at shows you also an altitude in the given coordinates. This data is provided by Google Elevation service. So instead of setting an air pressure as a reference point you can set an altitude, which is convenient option in some situations.

I created this mbar.at service as a hobby for my needs. In my sport activities such as climbing, hiking and running. I use Suunto Ambit gps wrist unit as a data logger, which uses barometer to measure altitude in 1 meter resolution. But weather condition happens to change frequently, that why I need to check some how current air pressure in my location. The result is the mbar.at service ;)

Also Garmin Forerunner 910xt users can use this service as well as whoever needs to know local air pressure or altitude.

The name of this service came from bar, the unit of pressure. But air pressure is measured in hPa (hehtopascal) unit, so 1 hPa = 1 mbar (millibar). And, voilá, with top-level domain of Austria we have mbar.at composition.

And if you wonder, is this service has something to do with Finnish bar-café named mbar. No, there is nothing in common, but both swear in the name of mbar. Ok, ok, map in this service is centered to this café by default ;)

There is no need for this service any more. So domain mbar.at is abandoned and the service is moved as a subsite of dima.fi to present as a part of portfolio.
